Steam Motive Power

P Class No. 207 at Mayfield Yard in the summer of 1947. By the end of the summer of 1947 less than 9 of the original 20 P Class 2-8-0's remained in service. F. Watson Photo

Bradford Locomotive Works produced a number of these P Class locomotives in HO Scale several years ago. Each engine was custom built using a Bowser drive and a custom made boiler and tender. They were handsomely detailed down to the engineer, brakeman and fireman. A great Model. It is understood that Bradford is able to build a few more of these engines. Price Approx. $475 anyone interested should e-mail the OWCS for additional details and availability.

No. 455 was one of ten Y-2 Class Heavy Mountain type locomotives bought by the O. & W. in 1929. One of the 455's crewman tops off her sand domes as she prepares to make the next run on the Scranton Div. Photo taken at Cadosia, NY Circa late 1930's

In 1981 NJ Custom Brass imported an HO Scale models of the O. & W.'s Y-2 Class 4-8-2 locomotives in brass from Korea with the notable Scullin main driver as seen in the above picture. In 1983 Nickel Plate Products imported this model with the original spoked drivers and a few other suttle differences.

Between 1910 and 1911 the O. & W. received 26 W Class 2-8-0 type locomotives. These engines were used in Freight and passenger service throughout the railroad system. A majority of these locomotives remained in service through the end of steam operations in 1948. The structure in the background is the single stall engine house at Cadosia. During the 1980's Nickel Plate Products imported several versions of the O. & W.'s W Class in HO Scale brass from Korea. With and without front pumps. Bob Collins photo, circa 1945

Between May of 1922 and October of 1923 the O. & W. received 10 Y Class 4-8-2 Light Mountain type locomotives for use in heavy passenger and freight service. No. 402 was designated a Y-1 type because it had a power booster on the rear trailing truck and also has the distinction of being the last steam locomotive removed from service in August of 1948. The most famous "Y" Class was No. 405 which provided the motive power for the "Mountaineer Limited". In 1973 Nickel Plate Products imported a brass model of these engines from Japan which included the necessary parts to streamstyle the locomotive for the Mountaineer Limited. Allan F. The U-1 Class 4-6-0's actually started out as a U Class 2-6-0 Camelbacks. Between 1901 and 1905 the O. & W. purchased 16 U Class locomotives. Between 1916 and 1924 a number of them had their boilers stretched and a four wheel pilot truck added. These engines slowly disapeared during the 1940's. Photo at "AV" 1942. Allan F. Seebach, Jr. Collection. Nickel Plate Products imported both the U and U-1 Class locomotives in HO Scale brass from Japan in 1975. There was problems with these engines, some ran well and some did not run at all. Many were sent back as defective. In 1987 a company called Model Express had these engines re-worked and re-imported them. They now run much better. To tell the difference the NPP model came in a black box with a plastic sleave. The Model Express version came in a square red box.

U Class 2-6-0 No. 255 was purchased in 1905 and was never rebuilt. She was sold to The Machine Tool and Equipment Co. June 30th 1946 and was scraped in February of 1947. These engines were used mainly in passenger service. Photo circa late 1930's at Cadosia. Allan F. Seebach, Jr. Collection

In May of 1911 the O. & W. received 4 E Class 4-6-0 type locomotives numbered 225-226- 227 and 228. These engines were affectionately known as "Tea kettles" and were used in light passenger service and on the branchlines. Between February of 1947 and May of 1948 all of these engines were retired from service. In the late 1980's Nickel Plate Products imported an HO Scale brass model of these handsome locomotives.

Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation

These locomotives do not look much like an O&W W Class but boy do they run sweet. We could not help but decal a few undecorated engines to help fill the need for some good running inexpensive O&W motive power. We will produce additional units if we can get undecorated locomotives.

Undecorated unit decaled in authentic O&W scheme Price $149.98
